Repairing a self-build after Storm Eunice
Our client was putting the finishing touches to an extensive signature and contemporary self-build project in St Albans, the culmination of a lifetime’s ambition and hard work.
On 18th February 2022, Storm Eunice ripped through the South East from the west. Reaching wind speeds of 122mph, it was reported to be the worst storm in the South of England for 30 years. It also proved to be damaging to the self-build, tearing half the flat roof from the central feature mansard roof and leaving the property open to the elements and the significant rain fall that followed.
The client contacted Your Claim, and we soon got to work validating a site works insurance policy. After an inspection by the insurers and the provision of supporting documentation, the claim was validated by insurers and we got to work on procuring the repairs.
We appointed an independent building surveyor due to the size and technical nature of works. We also short listed three contractors for competitive tender after sourcing quality tradespeople from our own network.
As well as replacing the three-ply membrane roof for an improved PVC membrane system, extensive internal works included drying, electrical, plastering and decorating on two of the property’s three floors, including the gallery landing.
All works were delivered by main contractors Hi Tech Roofing from Southend to the agreement and satisfaction of the property owners and policyholders.
We were delighted to have been able to assist our clients in recovering their losses and oversee this successful major loss storm damage claim. No fees were paid by the client; Your Claim was novated to the main contractor, who invoiced the insurer directly for the cost of repairs.
Take a look at the video below for an overview of the client’s experience with Your Claim, in their own words.

Due to storm damage in 2022 we had significant damage to our roof, ceilings were down inside, there was damage to flooring, it was a very big claim that we had to make, and we didn’t want to approach this ourselves.
This is where Graham from Your Claim was recommended to us, and from the get-go you could see he was very knowledgeable, he was very efficient, his experience was second to none.
We got down to filling in all the forms, he met with the loss-adjuster here which can be quite intimidating, and we got some quotes in, and Graham actually had a few people of his own that he knew, which turned out to be really really good workmen.
The process itself did take a long time, you know insurance companies love to drag their feet, but Graham was having none of it he was on their case all the time.
Always seemed to be one step ahead of them if they had any sort of, questions or whatever.
Again communication with us was brilliant, if we had any queries or questions he was always available to answer them.
So I would definitely not hesitate at all to recommend Graham.
Without a shadow of a doubt his experience is top. Brilliant.
Thank you Graham.
