Putting things right after an electrical fire at a commercial premises

Your Claim were commissioned to undertake a loss assessment and manage the restoration and building repairs at a basement tenanted Turkish Hammam spa in West London.

A consumer unit had burnt through the property, resulting in fire and smoke damage in three rooms, and leaving the tenant without power or light.

Unfortunately, the tenant was not able to benefit from business interruption insurance, so it was imperative that we reinstated the building to its pre-loss condition as soon as possible. The tenant was working hard to minimise downtime and loss of earnings, but for obvious reasons, time really was of the essence here.

While dealing with the fire and isolating the power supply from the main consumer unit, the fire service caused structural damage to the property. It soon became clear the entire place needed to be rewired and reconnected to the power utility supplier.

After stripping back all the damaged fabric, we used a thermal fogging machine and an air scrubber before re-boarding, re-fixing previously damaged sanitary wear, and re-installing electrical installations and decorations.

Crucially, we were able to advance negotiations with the insurers to bring forward the start date on the works and condense the restoration aspect into just two days. This gave our teams the leeway to complete all reinstatement works to a high standard and ensured the tenant could get back to business ASAP.
