FOR BROKERS

Your Claim is an independent loss assessor. We manage complex commercial property claims on behalf of your clients – protecting the settlement and the relationship you’ve worked hard to build.

When a commercial claim goes wrong, it lands at your door.

You placed the policy well and advised diligently. And then your customer’s claim arrived, and you’re left answering for decisions made by the insurer, the loss adjuster, and a process that no one seems to be moving forward.

Clients rarely separate broker from insurer when a claim stalls or a settlement disappoints and their frustration lands at your door. That’s the reality of commercial claims, and it’s not your fault. But it is a problem worth solving.

Damaged commercial property

We act for the policyholder. You stay the trusted adviser.

To help solve this problem, your client could appoint Your Claim as their claims advocate as we can prepare, manage, negotiate and settle the claim. We can deal with the loss adjuster, appoint surveyors where needed, coordinate contractors, and handle the evidence. But you remain the relationship owner – the broker your client trusts.

The roles are clear, and there’s no conflict between them because we don’t sell insurance and we don’t compete with brokers. But when we help your client resolve their claim, their experience of the process will reflect well on the advice they received from you.

Loss assessor vs loss adjuster: The distinction that matters in a complex claim

A loss adjuster is appointed by the insurer. Their job is to assess liability and determine a settlement figure. They work for the other side.

A loss assessor, however, works for the policyholder – your client. Our job is to prepare and defend their claim, ensure the evidence is complete, and negotiate the best possible outcome. Graham Pretty, our Managing Director, will be on your client’s side from day one.

This distinction is especially important in commercial claims, where the stakes are higher and the moving parts multiply quickly.

Commercial claims are rarely straightforward

A significant commercial loss can involve insurers and their adjusters, chartered surveyors, forensic accountants for business interruption, engineers, restoration contractors, environmental health bodies, managing agents and landlords. Without structured evidence and someone coordinating across all those parties, claims stall, settlements shrink, and clients lose confidence in the policy you sold them.

We manage the complexity, which means your account handlers aren’t spending their days on non-revenue-generating activities chasing adjusters, and your clients aren’t left wondering what’s happening.

When to involve us: The earlier, the better. Day one is best.

Brokers typically call us when a claim becomes contentious – when settlement offers fall short, when business interruption figures are challenged, or when adjuster engagement turns adversarial. We can certainly help at that stage, but early involvement consistently produces stronger outcomes.

Engaging Your Claim on day one helps avoid the pitfalls that lead to disputes later. The evidence is better. The timeline is cleaner. The outcome is more predictable.

We add nothing to the cost of the claim. Our fees are agreed upon transparently with the policyholder.

Claims we’ve settled for broker-referred clients

Restaurant closure – Billericay, Essex

Settlement agreed: £132,000

Queenies restaurant was forced to close after water damage from premises two floors above caused extensive flooding, including unsanitary contamination. High-value kitchen equipment required specialist assessment. Your Claim acted as the authorised representative for the tenant, coordinated an independent engineering assessment, structured and evidenced the material damage claim, calculated business interruption losses, and negotiated a cash settlement.

The outcome protected the business through an already difficult trading period. The broker relationship remained intact.

High-value residential block – London

Settlement agreed: £450,000

A failed fitting in a managed residential block caused significant flooding across several high-value apartments. The claim involved multiple leaseholders, managing agents, and substantial reinstatement values with high client expectations throughout. Coordinated claim presentation ensured the full scope of damage was recognised and professionally negotiated.

Our fees: What does this cost you?

Nothing. Your Claim is paid by the policyholder, not the broker.

For contents and business interruption claims, fees are typically agreed at around 10% of the settlement, confirmed in writing once the scope is established. There is no obligation to refer, and no broker commission arrangement. The fee structure is transparent, agreed directly with your client, and fully FCA compliant.

Why brokers work with us

Claims are the moment of truth between you and your clients.

You can’t control liability decisions. You can’t control insurer reserves. You can’t control adjuster priorities. What you can control is the level of support your client receives when things get difficult with a claim.

Brokers who work with Your Claim tell us their client complaints reduce, account handlers spend less time firefighting, and the retention conversation gets easier. When a complex claim resolves well, clients remember who helped make that happen.

You advise. You introduce us. We advocate. Together, the client outcome is protected.

Who you’re working with

Graham Pretty founded Your Claim in 2016 after a long career in building, surveying and restoration. He’s BDMA and PCA trained and brings technical knowledge that most claims managers simply don’t have – an understanding of how buildings are constructed, how damage actually behaves, and what reinstatement really costs.

His approach is measured and evidence-led. He’s the single point of contact for your client throughout the process, which matters in a complex claim where continuity counts.

Your Claim is directly authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Financial Services Register Number: 916129.
